At Dental On The Bay, we’ve recently brought in a new piece of technology called X-Guide Dynamic 3D Navigation to support our dental implant service. It’s one of the more significant upgrades we’ve made to how we plan and place implants, so we wanted to explain exactly what it is, how it works, and why we felt it was worth adding to our clinics.
So, What Actually Is X-Guide?
The easiest way to think about X-Guide is as a GPS system for implant surgery.
When you get behind the wheel with GPS running, you’re not just handed a paper map before you set off and left to remember every turn: the system tracks your car in real time and tells you exactly where you are relative to your route, adjusting as you go. X-Guide does the same thing, but for a dental drill.
Before your surgery, a 3D scan of your jaw is taken and used to build a virtual model of your mouth. On this model, your dentist plans exactly where each implant should go – down to the position, angle, and depth – taking into account your bone density, the location of nerves, and where your sinuses sit. This planning stage alone is already a big step up from working purely off 2D X-rays and experience.
Then, during the actual surgery, X-Guide tracks the position of the handpiece in real time and displays it on a screen, overlaid on your surgical plan. Your dentist can see, live, whether the drill is exactly where the plan says it should be and make micro-adjustments on the spot if your anatomy calls for it.
Why We Decided To Bring X-Guide Into Our Singapore Clinics
We didn’t add X-Guide because it’s a shiny new gadget. We added it because it directly improves outcomes for our patients, in a few specific ways:
Frequently Asked Questions
Does This Change What The Procedure Feels Like For Me?
Not dramatically: you’ll still go through a consultation, scans, and a planning discussion with your dentist beforehand, much like our standard implant process. The main difference happens behind the scenes during surgery itself, where your dentist has a live, precise view of exactly what’s happening as they work. For most patients, the practical result is simply a smoother, more predictable procedure with one less thing to worry about.
Is X-Guide Used For Every Implant Case?
Not necessarily. Our dentists will always assess your specific case and recommend the right approach for you, whether that’s a single implant, multiple implants, or a full-arch solution like All-on-4. For cases involving tight spacing, close proximity to nerves or sinuses, or multiple implants placed at once, X-Guide is typically the tool of choice.
Curious Whether This Applies To You?
If you’ve been considering dental implants in Singapore or were told in the past that you weren’t a good candidate, it may be worth revisiting that conversation. Book a consultation with our Dental On The Bay team and we’ll assess your case, walk you through your options, and let you know whether X-Guide-assisted surgery makes sense for you.
